June — October
Dry season
Sunny days, thinner vegetation and wildlife gathering around water sources make this a popular time for game viewing.
December — March
Green & calving season
Lush landscapes, newborn animals, predator activity and outstanding birdlife can make this period especially rewarding.
April — May
Quiet season
Richer greens, fewer visitors and attractive value for travellers who are comfortable with heavier showers.
The Great Migration
From around July to October, herds may be found in the northern Serengeti, where seasonal movement can create opportunities to see river crossings. From approximately December to March, the southern Serengeti and Ndutu areas are often associated with calving. Rainfall and fresh grazing influence the herds, so locations and dates vary each year.
Weather
Tanzania generally has a warm tropical climate, but altitude and region make a difference. Coastal areas are usually warm and humid, while mornings and evenings can feel cool in the northern safari areas and Ngorongoro highlands.

November short rains
Shorter showers can refresh the landscape, bring new green growth and make some areas quieter. Rainfall patterns vary, so the route and driving times should be planned around current local conditions.
